“When, as here, an election challenger has not followed the General Assembly’s rules for challenging an election, judicial restraint compels letting the election results stand rather than letting a judicial decision overturn the election.”
A Message to the Voters of Columbus City Council District 6
Dear Friends and Neighbors, I am grateful and humbled by the trust you placed in me when you elected me for Columbus City Council District 6. Today, I want to update you on an important development concerning the election and thank you for your continued support. As many of you know, after the election, a legal challenge was filed questioning my candidacy based on a technical issue with the timing of my nomination. This challenge ultimately reached the Indiana Supreme Court. I am pleased to share that the Court has ruled in my favor, affirming the validity of the election process and upholding the results you decided. The Court’s decision recognized that while election laws set important deadlines and rules for candidate nominations, once the election has taken place and voters have cast their ballots, challenges must follow specific legal procedures. Because the challenge did not meet those requirements, the Court dismissed the case as moot and upheld the election outcome. What matters most to me is that your voice has been heard and respected. The Court’s ruling reinforces the principle that the will of the voters should not be overturned lightly and that election laws must be followed with fairness and integrity. I am eager to continue serving our community with dedication, transparency, and a focus on the issues that matter most to you. Thank you again for your confidence in me. I look forward to working together to make District 6 and Columbus stronger for everyone. With gratitude, Jay Foyst Columbus City Council District 6 ps: Please consider making a donation to help defray the legal costs in defending my case. Comments are closed.
